Walden IV: Relay
Festival for sound art and performance
Walden is a festival for contemporary music, sound and performance art that will take place for the fourth time on July 6, 2024: at the Künstlerhof Frohnau and in the surrounding forest. Under this year's title “Relay”, Walden once again invites local and international artists to use the forest as a resonating body and stage and to approach the multi-layered history of this place in the former border area with performances, concerts and installations and to reimagine it for a day.

Film Undone presents contributions introducing unmade and unfinished film projects, film ideas realised in non-filmic media, as well as films that remained unseen in their intended form and at their intended time. These tentative and careful probes dedicated to singular projects reflect the importance of primary materials before and beyond the film. Bringing them together as Elements of a Latent Cinema opens a space to consider cases from various political geographies and historical moments in relation. Latency prompts to think differently about what has remained invisible in cinema than under deficit-centred categories such as failure, loss, or incompletion. It marks a sustained potentiality for things to change their condition, to affect us and set us in motion.

Film by director Raphaël Grisey in collaboration with photographer Bouba Touré, chronicles the ongoing developments and practices of Somankidi Coura, a self-organized farming cooperative along the Senegal River. Somankidi Coura was founded in 1977 by a group of former migrant workers and activists who had been living in France following the Sahel drought of 1973. The film focuses on the historical struggles of migrant workers in France, rural infrastructures and networks and the afterlife of colonial developmentalism and forced labor.

Columbiadamm Cemetery is a repository of German
imperial, colonial and genocidal history. It is
Germany’s first Muslim cemetery, the main historical
military cemetery in Berlin and the site of the
“Hererostein” (Herero Stone), a memorial that honors
German perpetrators of colonial violence against the
Herero and Nama people in what is now Namibia.
Through conversation with activists, historians,
cultural workers, cemetery staff and visitors, Still Fields
examines the cemetery’s unrecognized and
contentious layers of history, which lie incongruously
alongside one another.

Two shows showcase works by the recently graduated artist that are now entering the new step in their practices.
The title of the show borrows the concept of the word “liminality” from twentieth century folklorist Arnold van Gennep and Victor Turner.
In anthropology, liminality (from the Latin word līmen, meaning "a threshold") is the quality of ambiguity or disorientation that occurs in the middle stage of a rite of passage, when participants no longer hold their pre-ritual status but have not yet begun the transition to the status they will hold when the rite is complete.

PolArt is an artist in residence program where a group of early career artists is invited to join the scientific community
of marine biologists during their expeditions in the Arctic ocean. The residency ran annually from 2007-2013. Twenty-two artists participated during these years.
Every year a group show, the PolArt exhibition, was part of the Tromsø Kunstforening program.
Since then Tromsø Kunstforening has wanted to establish a platform for the participating artists to work more in-depth.
Our curator/public programs manager Hanne Gudrun Gulljord has been working with this as part of an in MA Curatorial practice
at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen.

Sounding Architecture critically examines the liminal space where art, architecture and music might overlap. Research in this case takes the form of bold new initiatives in cross-disciplinary collaborations, as historically, sound and architectural principles are discretized, rarely considered as contingent overlapping parameters in each field, though, in truth, they are. Anyone who has heard a piece of music in a space can learn to be sensitive to the fact that the architecture is a contributing factor to the resonance and, therefore, the music enfolding in a space. With the realization that architecture is ostensibly an instrument in all sonic conditions, architecture can then be factored into the musical composition.

international symposium on current developments in analog fil culture.
Film in the Present Tense is the closing event of RE MI.
Organised by LaborBerlin in cooperation with the Film Institute of the Berlin University of the Arts, Film in the Present Tense will bring together filmmakers, artists, programmers, technicians and representatives from museums, independent film labs and cinemas to address these questions and formulate ideas, possibilities and plans of action for keeping film current and alive. In addition to six panel discussions, there will be screenings and expanded cinema performances presenting some of the ways in which film continues to exist in the present tense.

A one week fanzine- workshop with seven students at the Nordland Kunst- og Filmfagskole in Kabelvåg were we created a fanzine around an alternative take on the Hurtigrutten tourist boats that traffic the coast of Norway
"...Brothels and colonies are two extreme types of heterotopia, and if we think, after all, that the boat is a floating piece of space, a place without a place, that exists by itself, that is closed in on itself and at the same time is given over to the infinity of the sea and that, from port to port, from tack to tack, from brothel to brothel, it goes as far as the colonies in search of the most precious treasures they conceal in their gardens, you will understand why the boat has not only been for our civilization, from the sixteenth century until the present, the great instrument of economic development (I have not been speaking of that today), but has been simultaneously the greatest reserve of the imagination. The ship is the heterotopia par excellence..."

workshop / Complex de Vitamin at
Club Electro Putere, Craiova
Atelierul are o latura practica, aplicata.

Marburg 1950

"Umgekehrt gibt es Heterotopien, die nicht
im Modus der Ewigkeit, sondern in dem
des Festes mit der Zeit verbunden sind:
nicht ewigkeitsorientierte, sondern
zeitweilige Heterotopien. Dazu gehört
sicher das Theater, aber auch der Jahr-
markt, dieser wunderbar leere Platz
am Rande der Stadt und zuweilen auch
in deren Zentrum, der sich ein oder
zwei mal im Jahr mit Buden, Ständen,
den unterschiedlichsten Gegenständen,
mit Faustkämpfern, Schlangenfrauen
und Wahrsagerinnen füllt."
